Ron Whitely, creator of the Estaz Maribou, shows us firsthand how to tie “one of the most popular flies on the East Coast.” He developed the pattern in 1985, and strongly believes it “works on everything.” In fact, Ron says he has caught (not snagged) Mullet on it before.
Ron also says this is a very easy pattern to tie, and should only take you five minutes. In addition to revealing his fly pattern, he shares a few tricks of the trade. One of which, that he strongly believes in is crimping the barb on EVERY hook before he gets started tying, that way fish do not get damaged upon a much quicker and easier release.
